Understanding the Differences Between Mazda SUV Models

It's not often that Florida drivers find SUV models that offer excellent on-road driving dynamics while retaining their utilitarian core. But that's exactly what they'll find new Mazda SUVs. From the small and spritely CX-3 to the versatile CX-5 and the spacious CX-9, Mazda's SUV models serve a range of driving preferences.

If you're not familiar with Mazda SUVs, we can help. There are a few similarities and differences that can help you understand the range of models available.

Size

One of the main distinguishing factors between these models is size -- each one sits in a distinct segment. The smallest of the three is the subcompact CX-3. It's big enough for five passengers, but small enough to offer excellent maneuverability. The CX-3 offers a total of 44.5 cubic feet of cargo space. In the middle sits the compact CX-5. It's another two-row option, but it features more overall passenger space than the CX-3. You'll also get a bump up to 59.6 cubic feet of total cargo capacity. The three-row CX-9 is the largest of the three. You'll get three rows of seating with room for seven passengers and up to 71.2 cubic feet of cargo space.

Performance

Power performance climb alongside size with these SUVs. The CX-3 offers a single standard engine -- the 2.0-liter SKYACTIV®-G four-cylinder. It pushes 148 horsepower and 146 pound-feet of torque through either a front-wheel drive or all-wheel drive drivetrain. The CX-5 gets a more powerful standard engine. The SKYACTIV®-G 2.5-liter engine delivers a healthy 187 horsepower and 186 pound-feet of torque. However, a turbocharged version with 250 horsepower and 310 pound-feet of torque is available. That same engine is the standard powerplant for the CX-9.

Technology

All three of these SUV models offer great technology features. The Mazda Connect display and infotainment system is standard in all three. That means you can access a range of helpful features through a simple interface. Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are now available in select models and trims as well.

Safety

From the outset, Mazda designed each of these SUVs to be safe and secure on the road. Between strong materials, durable design, and stable performance, each one offers a confidence-inspiring driving experience. Now there's another way to feel safe in your Mazda SUV: iACTIVESENSE. This available package adds intelligent technology like Blind Spot Monitoring and Rear Cross Traffic Alert to your SUV. The iACTIVESENSE package is available in all three models.

As you can see, each of Mazda's SUV models offers its own advantages and strengths. If you would like to compare the three for yourself, come visit O'Brien Mazda of Fort Myers. You can drive each one and see which on you like best.
